UNTD after 20 years of futility finally captures the crown in the
2009 Unseeded Nationals.
Congratulatons to all the Unseeded Coaches (and wrestlers) for their spirited participation in this year's outstanding event. The team title was in doubt until the final consolation round as team champion UNTD, 2nd place Edwards and 3rd place The Firm were all within striking distance of the title. The MOW award was shared by UNTD's Andrew Rendos 165 Bucknell and Guy Talk's Alex Krom 141 Md. The tournament finished with 8 Total Unseeded ALL-Americans with many more making it to the round of 12 only 1 match shy.
Addtional Interesting Unseeded Footnotes (I had a 4 hour layover in Detroit). The All Unseeded Team, made up of the highest scoring Unseeded Wrestlers in each weight class, would have scored 75.5 pts and finished in 5th place behind Nebraska and ahead of Cornell. Not too shabby for Unseededs!
And (it was an awfully long layover) If we made a team of all the first picks in the Unseeded Draft, that team would have scored 44 pts. finishing in 14th place finishing behind Northwestern and ahead of Central Michigan.
